Strengthen Your Upper Core
This class is designed to awaken and strengthen your upper core; help you to feel stronger in your upper body; release tension in your neck and shoulder muscles; create flexibility in your upper back; align your shoulder blades so you feel freer in your upper body; and increase your overall arm and hand strength.
On Anatomy
The upper core, also called the pectoral girdle, includes the muscles, bones, tendons, and ligaments of the torso, rib cage, thoracic spine, shoulder blades, shoulder joint, arms, collarbone, cervical spine, neck, and head. The upper core requires an upward vertical thrust. And even though the upper core is strong it is more vulnerable to misalignment (than the pelvic girdle) without firm support of the muscles, tendons, and ligaments. Any habitual, unbalanced movement pattern can change the tone of the underlying shoulder blade muscles – overworking some muscles that causes tightness and neglecting other muscles.

Each yoga class is designed to help release stored pain, anxiety, stress, or tension you may be experiencing so that vital, healing energy – prana – can move freely through the entire body. When vital energy is flowing freely (not obstructed), you experience positive emotions, revitalized energy, mental clarity, lightness, pain relief, and an overall sense of well-being.
